Pediatric ophthalmology

There's nothing better than seeing the world through your child's eyes. At Advocate Children's Hospital, we're dedicated to caring for those eyes. Children's optometrist vision assessments and eye exams are crucial for healthy vision. Detecting eye diseases and disorders early and treating them promptly can help children avoid lifelong, permanent visual impairment. Our pediatric ophthalmology division provides advanced ophthalmology services for children with a wide range of eye diseases and disorders.

Advocate Children's Hospital is at the forefront of pediatric ophthalmology. We are one of the few hospitals in Illinois equipped to perform retinopathy of prematurity laser treatment in the nursery (rather than transporting premature babies to the operating room). The division provided regional leadership for a multi-center NIH study of early treatment of retinopathy of prematurity. Additionally, the pediatric ophthalmology section has conducted original research on silicone tube treatment of tear duct obstruction.
