Pediatric palliative & supportive care

Pediatric palliative and supportive care is a specialty that focuses on enhancing the quality of life for children and families facing serious, potentially life-limiting and often complex conditions. It also assists families who are aware of prenatal conditions plan for the future.

The palliative and supportive care team works in collaboration with your child’s other health care providers to allow a seamless understanding of your child's condition and support plan. We provide support in the treatment of your child’s pain and distressful symptoms, assistance in care coordination, improvement of communication and assistance in making informed choices about difficult medical decisions.

Our mission is to support and listen to you through challenges and transitions throughout your child’s illness. Our goal is to help maximize your child’s wellness and functioning to see them live life to the fullest, despite their illness.

Services we offer

Our palliative and supportive care team will partner with your primary medical team to:

• Treat your child's pain and distressful symptoms.
• Provide you and your child with emotional, psychosocial, and spiritual support.
• Assist you in complex medical decision making and care planning.
• Support you in how to involve your child in decisions regarding their care.
• Coordinate education and support for you if your child will be living with medical technologies in the home, such as a g-tube, tracheostomy, ventilator, and/or central line.
• Facilitate continuity of your child’s care across care settings, both within and outside the hospital.
• Provide referrals for continuation of care outside the hospital and connect you with school and community resources.
