Bobby's story

Family photo

Bobby’s diagnosis with medulloblastoma with metastasis in the brain and up and down the spine led to a whirlwind of activity with visits to three hospitals in three days. The search ended with the Brain Tumor Center at Advocate Children’s Hospital and Dr. John Ruge’s surgical care.

Chemo and radiation therapy followed Bobby’s recovery from the surgery. Early intervention in speech, oncology and physical therapy helped Bobby have an even more robust recovery from his treatments.

During his treatments, Bobby was in the hospital at least once a month for chemo and radiation. In between visits, he would beg his parents to take his temperature, hoping he would be able to go into the hospital. They are touched by the level of compassionate care he has experienced that makes their little boy look forward to going to the hospital.

Bobby is doing well in school, although his cancer and treatments greatly impact the way in which he learns. He enjoys outdoor activities, including kayaking, golf and has even tried rappelling.
