Early onset scoliosis
Every year 100,000 children in the U.S. are diagnosed with early onset scoliosis. This condition is very hard to diagnose at birth. Symptoms consist of one hip higher than the other, uneven waistline, tilted and uneven shoulders, and uneven arm length when standing straight. Signs and symptoms of this condition may resemble other spinal conditions or deformations so it's always best to consult with one of our surgeons for an accurate diagnosis.
Early onset scoliosis testing & diagnosis
Physicians will conduct a thorough family and medical history followed by a complete and accurate diagnosis. The earlier the diagnosis the greater the chance of treatment and recovery.
- MRI (magnetic resonance imaging): Can assess the spinal cord with detail along with producing images of the organs and structures throughout the body.
- EOS imaging: Medical imaging system that is to provide frontal and lateral radiology photos, with reduced radiation.
- CT scan (computed tomography): More detailed images that shows the bones, fat, organs and muscles.
